Margaret C. LaVallee

Margaret C. LaVallee, age 91, of Litchfield, MN died at Ecumen Emmanuel Home in Litchfield, MN, Thursday, February 24, 2011. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield with Father Joseph Steinbeisser as celebrant. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery, Hugo, MN. Margaret Catherine LaVallee, the daughter of Frank and Grace (Jackson) Callahan was born on August 4, 1919 in St. Paul, MN. She attended school in St. Paul and graduated from St. Joseph's Academy. She worked in the secretarial field for the Northern Pacific Railroad and University of Minnesota. On December 12, 1957, she was united in marriage to Felix LaVallee. They lived in Richfield, MN. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and was very active in volunteer work at the church, school and at the Augsburg Park Community Library. She enjoyed working in the library and loved the children. She also enjoyed gardening and visiting with family and friends. She was known for her gentle ways, great smile and Irish wit. After a fall she became a resident of Emmanuel Nursing Home in Litchfield, MN for the past 8 1/2 years. Margaret is survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Andrew and Dolores (Lavellee) Marier; niece, Yvonne (and William) Olinger of Hector, MN; nephews, Charles LaVallee of White Bear Lake, MN and George LaVallee of Hugo, MN; and other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Felix; parents; sister, Elaine Ryan and brother, Ralph Callahan.
