Mabel Dougherty

Mabel L. Dougherty, age 91, of Litchfield, died on Monday, August 17, 2009 at the Bethany Home in Litchfield, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 20, 2009 at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield with Monsignor Francis Garvey as celebrant. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 PM and a VFW Auxiliary service to follow. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Litchfield, MN. Mabel Louise Dougherty the daughter of Garfield and Ida (Saar) Tuman, was born on August 28, 1917 in Marshall, MN. She grew up and attended school in Marshall and Clara City area. She was united in marriage to John Dougherty on September 10, 1941 in Litchfield, Minnesota. Mabel was a member of the Church of St. Philip, CCW, VFW Auxiliary, GAR and POW. She enjoyed cooking, flower gardening, embroidering, quilting and writing letters. Mabel loved to enter her baking, sewing and canning at the Meeker County Fair. She especially enjoyed helping and mentoring her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her love of shoes, especially her red ones. Mabel is survived by her children Don (and Diane) Dougherty of Litchfield, MN, Karen (and Duane) Louisiana of Monticello, MN, Kate (and Jack) Nelson of Shakopee, MN, John (and Margenia) Dougherty of Radcliff, Kentucky, Dianne Hierlmaier of Hutchinson, MN and Carol Pehle of Shorewood, MN; 16 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildern; sisters Eva Kadelbach of Hector, MN and Pearl Kohls of New Hope, MN; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Garfield and Ida; her husband John in 1983; son-in-law Chris Pehle; brother Vern Tuman.; and a sister Ethel Smith.
