Mabel A. Biel, age 86, of Richmond, formerly of Litchfield, died peacefully at Cherrywood of Richmond. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 2, 2012, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 1st from 5:00 PM until 8 PM at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery. Mabel Anna Biel, the daughter of Hugo and Viola (Schieble) Gieseke, was born on December 20, 1925, in Brighton Township, Nicollet County, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church where she also taught Sunday School and played the organ. Mabel grew up on the family farm in Brighton Township. Mabel worked at a children's home in Minneapolis before she was united in marriage to Eugene Albert Biel at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brighton Township on April 12, 1950. After they where married, they lived in several areas of Wisconsin and Minnesota, finally settling in the Litchfield Area in 1965. She was a homemaker/mother and sewed coats for Fingerhut. She also worked as a cook for the senior high in Litchfield and as a baker for the Library Square Restaurant in Litchfield. Mabel was an active member at Immanuel Lutheran Church where she played the organ for 30 years and was a member of the LWML. She was an avid gardener and provided flowers for church. She also enjoyed baking, quilting, playing dominoes, and jigsaw puzzles. She is survived by her children, Katherine Weekes of Auburndale, Fl, Kenneth (Lois) Biel of Browerville, MN, Margaret (David) Braegelman of Eden Valley, Charles (Wanda) Biel of Battleground, WA, Elaine (Stephen) Johnson of Willmar, Renee Biel of Litchfield, Patricia Schultz of Eden Valley, 14 grandchildren: Bart Weekes, Ben Weekes, Bob Weekes, Cheryl Durheim, Scott Biel, Jason Biel, Adam Biel, Matthew Biel, Jennifer Johnsen, Gary Johnson, Carrie Walker, Laura Schultz, Jasmine Sluka, Leandra Martinson, and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eugene, grandson, Michael, brother, Herold Gieseke, and son-in-law Gale Schultz. Previous Events
