Luella Eunice Schilling

Luella Eunice Schilling, age 89, of Litchfield, died on Friday, January 15, 2016, at the St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at the St. Matthew's United Church of Christ in Forest City. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, January 22nd at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield. Luella Eunice Schilling, the daughter of Harry and Eunice (Hanson) Petersen, was born on April 25, 1926, in St. Paul, MN. When she was very young, her family moved to the Beckville area. She was baptized and confirmed in the Beckville Lutheran Church. She attended school at the District 78 country school and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1944. Following school she worked in payroll at Seeger Manufacturing Co. in St. Paul. On April 3, 1948 she was united in marriage to Milton Fred Carl Schilling at the Beckville Lutheran Church. She joined the St. Matthew's UCC in 1948 and in 1988 she was elected as the first woman president of the congregation. She was a member of the Musician's Union and played drums for the Milt Schilling Band. She enjoyed embroidering and embroidered crib quilts for her great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and reading. Her greatest love was for her family. She is survived by her children, Judy (Roger) Kruse of Cosmos, Barbara (Robert) Hess of Kimball, Betty (Ralph) Inselmann of Cosmos, Wesley Schilling of Litchfield, Linda (John) Lietzau of Litchfield, Stuart Schilling of Litchfield, Dolores Schilling of Lester Prairie, Beverly (Michael) Ziegler of Litchfield, Janet Messner of Brownton, Debra Olson of Cape Coral, FL, Paul (Kristi) Schilling of Litchfield, Lois Croft (Craig Rehard) of Cape Coral, FL, Milton Schilling Jr of Litchfield, Gregg Schilling (Jenny Anderson) of Litchfield and Gary (Carol) Schilling of Papillion, NE. She is also survived by her 27 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 5 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Milton Schilling, son Ron Schilling, grandchildren Jason Lietzau, Samantha Lietzau and Kelly Naser; brothers, Vernon and Lloyd Petersen; sister Joan Schmidt and sons-in-law, Kent Olson and Steve Messner.
