Lucille Escen, age 96, of Litchfield died on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at the Emmanuel Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at the First Lutheran Church in Litchfield with Pastor David Sorensen officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00PM on Monday at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery. Lucille Escen, the daughter of Andrew and Ingrid (Person Johnson) Anderson was born on June 6, 1912, in Litchfield. She grew up and received her education in Litchfield, graduating from Litchfield High School in 1931. She worked at the Litchfield Woolen Mills before moving to Oakland, CA. On June 3, 1939, she was united in marriage to Adolph Escen in Oakland. They returned to the Litchfield area. Lucille was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran church where she was a lifelong active member. She enjoyed cooking, reading, word puzzles, antiques and flowers. She was a very generous person and a gracious hostess. Rarely did someone leave her home without being served some of her egg coffee and lunch. Lucille’s life revolved around her family and friends. She was known as the family historian. She is survived by her children, Sylvia (and Philip) Holtz of Cottage Grove and Paul Escen of New Brighton; grandchildren, Mark (and Amanda) Escen, Jennifer (and Robert) Blomberg, Jonathan (and Jamie) Holtz, Jeffrey Holtz (and fiancée Colleen Lockman); great grandchildren, Benjamin and Joshua Blomberg and Emmi Jo Holtz. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Veronica Escen of Litchfield and sister-in-law, Dorothy Anglim of Champlain as well as many nieces and nephews. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph; two sons, Robert and Richard; infant daughter, Mary Lou; brother, Arnold; and sisters, Irene and Eilleen and daughter-in-law Jonalyne Escen.
