Linda M. Wimmer, age 77, of Darwin, died on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at the Dassel Lakeside Community Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday March 18, 2017 at the Church of St. John in Darwin, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Friday at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield with a prayer service at 8:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be held in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Darwin, MN. Linda Mae E. Wimmer, the daughter of Eddie and Mable (Rice) Nelson, was born on October 24, 1939, in Litchfield. She lived in North Kingston where her parents owned and operated the General Store until the age of six. They moved to Litchfield where she attended school and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1957. On May 10, 1958, she married Bill Wimmer at the St. John's Church Hall in Darwin. They made their home in Litchfield until moving to Darwin in 1968. After marriage she worked as a cook at the Darwin School until 1971. She then started and managed the Darwin Clothing and Food Shelf. It became Heartland and is now Threads of Hope in Litchfield. She also started many programs such as Toys for Tots, Weatherization heating assistance and many more. She was an active member at St. John's Catholic Church in Darwin where she taught religion classes and organized carnivals for their Darwin students. She also served as a Den mother for Cub Scouts. She enjoyed camping with her family & friends at their place on Dunns Lake. She had an overwhelming passion for shoes. She enjoyed putting puzzles together and playing cards and games. Back in the day she especially enjoyed snowmobiling, dancing with Bill and roller skating. She is survived by her husband Bill Wimmer of Darwin; children Billy and Shari Wimmer of Litchfield, Leann Wimmer of Bemidji, Lorri Pollock of Darwin, Lynette and Ricky Howell of Olive Branch, MS; grandchildren Crystal and Jake Pederson, Melissa Norberg, Sarah Wimmer, Tyson and Megan Wimmer, Megan Norberg, Missy and Dustin Green, Reed Wimmer, Victor Norberg, Dylan Gunderson and Ryley Pollock; great grandchildren Jackson Berggren, Wyatt Berggren, Christian Wimmer, Mason Green, Kenley Green, Nolan Green, Miles Wimmer-Wiggen and one soon to arrive. She is also survived by her sister Arlene and Duane Westphall of Grand Marais. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Russel Nelson and Harold Nelson; sisters Dorothy Strand and Shirley Burlingham and a great grandchild Charlie Mae Wimmer.
