Lewis Alvin Smith

Lewis A. Smith, age 92, of Litchfield died on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Meeker Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, March 19, 2012 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Lewis Alvin Smith, the son of Albert and Freida (Kahkle) Smith, was born on December 3rd, 1919 in Litchfield on the family farm in Ellsworth township. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran church in Ellsworth township. Lewis honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1942 until 1946 as a First Class Aviation Mechanic. On May 10th 1952, Lewis A. Smith and Florence L. Krueger were joined in holy marriage for 59 years. God blessed their marriage with three children Craig, Nancy & Jayne. He lived on and farmed the family farm for his 92 years of life. He enjoyed watching his crops grow and milking his Holstein cows. He was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran church in Litchfield. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War. He is survived by his wife Florence, children Craig Smith, Nancy and Doug Piepenburg & Jayne and Mark Holmgren. Grandchildren, Kelly and Jerry Block & Jeremy Smith, Erin Piepenburg & Justin and Kourtney Piepenburg, Ashley Holmgren & Ryan Holmgren. Great grandchildren Evan, Nora & Brenna Block & Jaxson Piepenburg and many nieces, nephews & other relatives and friends. He is proceeded in death by his parents and 16 brothers and sisters.
