Lester Schultz, age 79, of Cosmos died on Sunday, April 22, 2012, near Bird Island. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, April 30, 2012 at the Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 29, 2012, from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery with Military Honors by the Cosmos American Legion. Lester Albert Schultz, the son of Herman and Louise (Rosenow) Schultz, was born on November 10, 1932 in Litchfield. He attended school in Litchfield and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1950. He was confirmed at the St.Paul's Lutheran church in Litchfield. He continued to help on the family farm with milking cows north of Litchfield. Lester served in the Army from 1954 to 1956. He attended basic training at Fort Leanard Wood, Mo. and served his time at the Pentagon. He pitched softball on the Army team and was proud of his 28-4 record. On September 14th, 1957 he was united in marriage to Carmille Joanne Hawkinson in Litchfield. Lester worked for the first district and Woolen Mills for several years. He started working for Moormans feed as a District Sales Manager and he moved with his family to Hector in 1974. He continued to sell Vigortone feed until 1987. He worked several years at the Buffalo Lake Meat Plant and seasonal jobs at Del Monte in Sleepy Eye before his retirement. Lester was a member of the Cosmos American Legion Beack-Thompson Post 126. He was the current Post Commander for the past 2 years. Lester was very proud of his Legion Family. Lester was active with his Kimball bowling league, card players throughout the Cosmos region and his love for Bingo. Lester was active in 4-H projects and an avid softball player, pitching many scoreless innings. He had a great memory, a love of life and enjoyed talking with people. He is survived by his children Samuel Schultz of Willmar, Thomas (and Faith) Schultz of Olathe, KS, Ruth (and Leigh) Matheson of Kasota, and Timothy Schultz of Willmar, grandchildren, Maggie, Justina and Alicia Schultz, Nicole, Jared and Scott Schultz, Joseph, Levi and Austin Schultz, sisters, Leona Plamman of Hutchinson, Margaret Lorenson of Atwater and brother, Fred (and Lois) Schultz of Litchfield. He is also survived by many cousins, other relatives and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carmille Schultz, daughters, Leslee and Lisa Schultz, son, John Schultz, grandson, Joshua Schultz and sister Marie Plamman.
