Lawrence J. Gilman, age 87, died at his home in Minneapolis, on Tuesday, March 10, 2009. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 10:30 AM at St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church in Forest City with Father Pat Casey as celebrant. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Litchfield. Litchfield Military Honor Guard will provide honors.
Lawrence John Gilman the son of Charles and Gertrude (Miller) Gilman was born on January 8, 1922 in Forest City, Minnesota. He grew up and received his education in the Litchfield area, graduating from Litchfield High School. Lawrence served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He worked for a concrete block manufacturing and lived in St. Louis Park and Minneapolis for the past 37 years. Lawrence enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a special fondness for the Crow River.
He is survived by his daughter Diane Williams of Minneapolis, sister Dorothy Pennertz of Litchfield, three grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, life partner Ramona Pepin, one brother, three sisters and a grandson Dustin.
