LaVerne A. ""Vern"" Fett, age 96, of Litchfield, MN, died on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the Ecumen Emmanuel Home in Litchfield, MN. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 12, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City, MN. Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 5:00 PM on Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City and will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Monday. Interment will be held in the First Lutheran Cemetery, Grove City, MN. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. LaVerne Allison Fett, the son of Fred and Tilla (Benson) Fett, was born on May 18, 1918 in Windom, MN. He received his education in Windom and graduated from the Windom High School in 1935. After graduating, Vern worked with his family on the family farm. He then served in the US Army during WWII from 1941 until 1946. While serving in the military he had a faithful pen pal, Doris Jerdee. On February 6, 1947, shortly after returning to Minnesota from his service he was united in marriage to Doris in St. Louis Park, MN. Together they lived in Bingham Lake and farmed until moving to Lake Lillian in 1951. Vern continued to farm for a short time before becoming an electrician. He retired in 1980 and moved to Litchfield in 1993. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City and the American Legion. He was a handyman and will be remembered for his kind, caring and patient personality. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He deer hunted until he was 85. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, watching sports and going for drives in the country. Vern is survived by his children, Donald Fett of Brooklyn Center, MN, David (Marie Lang) Fett of Grove City, MN and Douglas (Julie) Fett of Dassel, MN; grandchildren Brian (Victoria) Fett, Laura (Zach) Christensen, Allison (Andy) Kieffer, Amanda (fiancé Sullivan Marxen) Fett; great grandchildren Alex Fett and Xaylia Fett; brother Fritz (LaVonne) Fett of Windom, MN; sister Adele Salzwedel of Windom, MN; sister-in-law Avis Fett of Windom, MN; and extended family member Erik Cihlar.
