Kent H. Smith, age 64, of Grove City died on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 19, 2019, at the River of Life Church in Cold Spring. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Thursday, April 18th at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral and Cremation Service in Litchfield. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at church. A private family interment will take place in the First Baptist Cemetery in Grove City.
Kent Harold Smith, the son of Wendell and Maurine (Erickson) Smith, was born on November 15, 1954, in Litchfield. He grew up in the Grove City area and went to the Baptist Church. He graduated from Grove City High School in 1972 and continued his education at Willmar Technical College studying Diesel Mechanics. Kent farmed, raising crops and a wide variety of livestock. On February 15, 1980, he was united in marriage to Jodi Norling. They have lived north of Grove City for most of their 39 years together. After some turbulence in his teen years and early twenties, he surrendered his life to the Lord at the age of 24. He whole-heartedly served the Lord for the rest of his days, most recently as an author and a Missionary Associate for the Assemblies of God. He enjoyed being out in Creation, studying God's Word and spending time with his 13 children and 45 grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Jodi Smith of Grove City; children Ben (Joy) Smith of Grove City; Eli (Danielle) Smith of Willmar; Bethany (Tim) Lund of Cokato; Emily (Matt) Lund of Cokato; Nathan (Joy) Smith of Imperial Beach, CA; Stephanie (Joseph) Kraemer of Paynesville; Jennifer (Eli) Lanctot of Manchester, NH; Rosanna Smith of Imperial Beach, CA; Samuel (Lea) Smith of Litchfield; Jonathan (Charis) Smith of Grove City; 3 children still at home: Kristy, Reuben, and Abel; 45 grandchildren; and his mother Maurine Smith of Willmar. He is also survived by his sister Cynthia (Guy) Chetrit of Spicer, brother Kraig (Jackie) Smith of Wolf Creek, MT, plus nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Wendell Smith, infant brother Steven, and pre- born grandson Keagan Smith (son of Eli and Danielle).
