Kathlyn ""Kaye"" Merila

Kathlyn 'Kaye' A. Merila, age 70, of Plymouth, loving wife, mother and grandmother died on Sunday, February 23, 2014, at St. Therese in New Hope. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM at House of Hope Lutheran Church in New Hope. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield, MN and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be held in the spring at Lake Ripley Cemetery. Kathlyn Anderson Merila, the daughter of Philip and Cora (Rodal) Anderson, was born on May 31, 1943, in Butterfield, MN. She moved at an early age with her family to Litchfield. She attended school there and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1961. She continued her education at the University of Minnesota Dental Assistant School. On June 13, 1964, she was united in marriage to Joseph Merila at First Lutheran Church in Litchfield. They moved to Minneapolis, and as they had a family, they made their home in Plymouth where they have lived for the past 41 years. As her children grew, she eventually entered back into the work force part time at various orthodontic offices until retiring a few years ago. She was a member of House of Hope Lutheran Church in New Hope. Kaye loved being outside, working in her yard, and tending to her beautiful flowers. She loved to spend time with her family; especially her grandchildren and their activities. Memorials to the National Brain Tumor Foundation are preferred. Kaye is survived by her husband, Joseph Merila of Plymouth; children, Tracy (and Shaun) Sartin of Northbrook, IL, and Mark Merila of Maple Grove; grandchildren, Brooke Merila, Boston Merila, and Brody Merila. She was a wonderful aunt and great aunt and cherished her nieces and nephews. Family was the most important thing to her.
