June P. (McLear) Schafer, age 72, of Litchfield, died on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield, MN.
A memorial service will be held at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Litchfield on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 2:00PM, with Father Joe Steinbeisser officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard.
June Pearl (McLear) Schafer was born on April 16, 1936, to Joseph and Lena (Dana) McLear in Fine, New York. She received her education at the Clifton Fine High School in Star Lake, NY, graduating in 1954. She entered the Air Force 6 months after graduation, going through basic training in San Antonio, TX. She was also an Ensign with the Naval Sea Cadets in Litchfield. June was a life member of the Admiral Benson V.F.W. Post #2818.
She marrried Eugene Schafer on December 20, 1957 and they later divorced.
June has been a free spirit and has lived her life to the fullest. She has lived in Michigan and Ohio before moving to Litchfield in 1969. June could be found at home with her best friend Richard, admiring her Elvis collection or sewing.
June’s family was her greatest joy and brought much happiness having four children, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She extended her love and happiness to Richard’s son and grandchildren.
June is survived by her life partner Richard Carbert of Litchfield, children Joyce (Tim) Bjork of Winona, MN, Evelyn Casey of Eau Claire, WI, Janet Anderson of Litchfield, and Richard Schafer of Litchfield, Richard Carbert II of Litchfield; 12 grandchildren; Becky Hust, Susan Hust, Yvonne (Terry) Hammerschmidt, Jesse Schafer, Benjamin Schafer, Jeremy Anderson, Andrea Anderson, Billy Jack Casey, Scott Casey, Jonathan Kohut, Patrick Carbert, & Meghan Carbert; also surviving are 5 great grandchildren Taren, Katherine,Gavin, Kyleigh & Carter, many nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Lena; brothers and sisters Gordon, George, Chuck, Robert, Roland, Alden, Joe, Ella Bistrovich and Viola Mae.
