Julius 'Bud' H. Marquardt

Julius 'Bud' H. Marquardt, age 86, of Litchfield, MN, died on Saturday, December 3, 2011, at the Ecumen Emmanuel Home in Litchfield, MN. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at St. Matthews United Church of Christ in Forest City, MN with Pastor Jeanne Bringgold-Pro officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Tuesday, December 6 at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield, MN with a 6:30 Prayer service. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 12:00 Noon until the 1:30 PM service at church. Interment will be held at Lake Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield, MN. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Matthews United Church of Christ. Julius 'Bud' Henry Marquardt, the son of Henry and Emma (Schultz) Marquardt was born on September 10, 1925 in Harvey Township, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Bud grew up in Harvey Township until he was in 4th grade when his family moved to Litchfield, where he graduated from Litchfield High School. After high school he was a farm hand for Herman Rosenow and Walter Kuehl. Bud was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Kuehl on October 10, 1944 in Forest City, MN. In 1945, Bud served in the US Army where he was stationed in Korea for 9 months. When he returned home from the Army he began milking cows and worked part time at the Litchfield Elevator. Bud also worked as a custodian for 26 years at the Litchfield High School, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the St. Matthews United Church of Christ, the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He enjoyed watching the MN Twins and Vikings, playing cribbage and pinochle and spending time with his grandchildren. Bud also enjoyed attending all athletic events for the Litchfield Dragons and bowled for 40 years, taking many bowling trips all over the U.S. for tournaments with the V.F.W., American Legion and mixed doubles. He will be remembered as a soft spoken, tender hearted, hard worker with a witty sense of humor. Bud is survived by his wife Ruth of Litchfield, MN; daughters, Carol (and Hugh) Wagner of Watkins, MN and Darlene (and Bob) Wendroth of Litchfield, MN; daughter-in-law Diane Marquardt of Plymouth, MN; grandchildren, Corey (Jana) Wagner, Hayfield, Wendy Wagner Foley, Litchfield, Derrick (special friend, Lori Athmann) Wagner, Watkins, Angela (David) Wagner Dietel, Darwin, Kim (Matt) Wendroth Farage, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Kelly (David) Wendroth Lukason, Sartell, Jay (Jennie) Marquardt, Fridley, and Tracy (Jason) Marquardt Keech, St. Francis, Jennie (and Chad) Voelz of Litchfield; 24 great grandchildren, Darin Wagner, Laura Wagner, Dillon Wagner, Danielle Wagner, Samantha Scofield, Alec Scofield, Joseph Scofield, Dean Foley, Rachel Foley, Kristin Foley, Logan Wagner, Jadalyn Wagner, Landon Wagner, Abby Athmann, Dominic Dietel, Jacob Dietel, Noah Dietel, Carly Wagner, Katie Voelz, Amanda Marquardt, Alissa Marquardt, Aundreya Marquardt, Connor Keech and Madelyn Keech; 2 great great grandchildren, Kaiden Wagner and Brooklyn Wagner; and sisters Bertha Holtz and Caroline (and Chuck) McCann.
