Judith Nelson

Judith Patricia Nelson, age 93 of Willmar, MN died on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at the St. Cloud Hospital, in St. Cloud, MN.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, MN. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Judith Patricia Nelson the daughter of Arthur and Nellie (West) Krug was born on February 3, 1931.  As an infant, she moved with her family to Hannibal, Missouri.  While in her elementary school days, she joined the band program playing clarinet. During her high school years, she also joined the orchestra devoting time and study of the violin. Judith graduated from Hannibal High School in 1948.  In 1951 she graduated with an associate degree in education from Hannibal-LaGrange University.  Then she went on to get her Bachelors degree at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (Truman University) in 1952.  She began her teaching career in Hannibal, teaching in the same building she attended as a junior high student.  She continued teaching in Cosmos, Minnesota after marrying James Nelson on May 31, 1953, observing their 70th anniversary in 2023.   Judith was an active member of Arndahl Lutheran Church before joining Zion Lutheran Church.  As a member of Zion, she was involved with WELCA, Bible study groups and quilting.  She enjoyed camping and touring most of the 50 states via tour groups. Judith and her husband Jim spent many winters in Apache Junction, Arizona.  Spending time with her family was her utmost enjoyment.  

Judith is survived by her husband Jim of Willmar; children Wesley (Marilyn) of Willmar, MN, Sandra (Jan) Severson of Hawley, MN and Michael Nelson of Pine River, MN. Grandchildren Brady (Katie) Severson, Brett (Brittany) Severson, Nathanial Nelson and Nicole Nelson.  Great Grandchildren Jayden, Levi and Adelyn Severson. Cousin David (Barb) McCall, and several nieces and nephews.  

Judith is preceded in death by her parents; sister Pauline, brother in law Harold Ohl; brother Arthur Krug, sister in law Margaret.

Interment will be at Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield, Minnesota. 

 Memorials are preferred to the Zion Lutheran Campership Program.
