Joyce Cecilia Nelson

Joyce C. Nelson, 75, of Litchfield, MN died on Monday, May 26, 2014 at the Meeker Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, June 2, 2014 at the Beckville Lutheran Church in Litchfield, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Beckville Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Monday. Interment will be in the Beckville Lutheran Cemetery. Joyce Cecilia Nelson, the daughter of Cecil and Mabel (Sisseton) Ageton, was born on January 23, 1939 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Joyce graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls in 1956 and worked for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. On November 4, 1961, she was united in marriage to H. Wayne Nelson at the First Christian Church of Sioux Falls, SD. Following marriage they made their home on a farm near Strout. Joyce was a resourceful, gentle, compassionate wife and mother. In 1980, she began working at the Meeker County Extension office until her retirement in 2002. In 2008 she moved to Cedar Crest to receive care for Dementia. Joyce was an active member of the Beckville Lutheran Church where she was organist for many years, active with WELCA and served as church secretary. She was a member of the South Fork Singers and enjoyed music and reading. She is survived by her husband H. Wayne Nelson of Litchfield, MN; children, Mike Nelson of Litchfield, MN, Sandy (Neil) Dovre of Cottonwood, MN, David (Melanie) Nelson of Litchfield, MN, and Marcus (Barbara Ann) Nelson of Litchfield, MN; grandchildren, Brent (Dana) Nelson, Matthew Nelson, Alyssa Nelson, Christopher Nelson, Noah Dovre, Jonah Dovre, Elijah Dovre and Jayden Nelson; brothers James (Bonnie) Ageton of Sioux Falls, SD and Richard Ageton of Sioux Falls, SD; sisters-in-law Burnice Ageton and Gwen (Paul) Frosig; daughter-in-law Brenda Nelson of New London, MN and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Phyllis Ageton and Connie Dell, and brother Roger Ageton.
