Joseph Orville Martinson

J. Orville Martinson, age 86, of Atwater died on Tuesday, November 27, 2012. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater with Pastor Grant Fischer Officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield. Interment will take place at 2:30 PM on Saturday, December 1st in the Arndahl Lutheran Cemetery with military honors by the Atwater American Legion. Joseph Orville Martinson, the son of Alf and Alice (Jacobson) Martinson, was born on November 8, 1926, In Litchfield. He was baptized and confirmed in the Arndahl Lutheran Church. He grew up in the rural Grove City area and attended District 39 Country School and Grove City High School. Orville served in the US Navy during WWII and was assigned to the USS CHARA in the Pacific. He returned from military service and began farming which truly was his passion. He was united in marriage to Gladys (Peterson) Anderson on April 15, 1982 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater. Orville served on the Acton Township Board for many years. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Atwater. He is survived by his nieces, Rande Sue (and Dwayne) Diers of Waverly, and Karen (and Douglas) Wilson of Salem, OR and nephew Arne (and Patricia) Martinson of Allen, TX. Also surviving are his step-children, Linda (and Bruce) Johnson of Atwater, Jerome ""Butch"" (and Lois) Anderson of Atwater and Karen Johnson of Detroit Lakes, great nieces, nephews and cousins, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. Orville was blessed with a host of extended family and friends. Orville was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Gladys Martinson, brother, Harlan Martinson, infant sister, Harriet Martinson and sister, Vivian Martinson.
