John W. Klug

John W. Klug, age 84, of Litchfield, MN, died on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at Ecumen Emmanuel Home in Litchfield, MN. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 14, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Christian Muellerleile and Harvey Nelson officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 13, 2011, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Lake Ripley Cemetery with Military Honors by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. John Waldo Klug, the son of John Frederick and Agnes (Block) Klug, was born on June 12, 1926 in Ironwood, Michigan. He attended Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood, MI, graduating in 1944. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theater during WWII aboard the USS WASP. In 1946, he was honorably discharged and returned to Minnesota where he attended Moorhead State Teachers College graduating in 1950. John was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Warnes on June 7, 1952 in Eidsvold Lutheran Church, in Halm, MN. John taught and coached in Perham from 1951 until they moved to Litchfield in 1957. In Litchfield, John taught and coached and also became the Athletic Director and Assistant Principal. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Navy Club, Lions and the Retired Teachers Association. He was also an active member of Zion Lutheran Church. John will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and enjoyed visiting with friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed golfing, sports and playing cards. John is survived by his wife Ruth, children Cindy Klug of Moorhead, MN. Dave (and Kathy) Klug of Fargo, ND, Jim (and Lori) Klug of Eau Claire, WI, Jana (and Curt) Kasper of Moorhead, MN, and 9 grandchildren.
