John ""Jack"" Decker

John H. ""Jack"" Decker, age 73, of Litchfield, MN died on June 13, 2015 at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, MN. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at the First Lutheran Church in Litchfield, MN. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in the Minnesota State Veteran Cemetery, Little Falls MN. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. John Henry Decker was born June 19, 1941 in St. Paul, MN to John and Lorraine Decker. He was baptized September 1941 and confirmed in 1956 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield, MN. His family moved from St. Paul to Litchfield in 1952. He graduated from Litchfield High School. Jack was united in marriage to LaVerne Linders on October 5, 1968 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fridley, MN. Jack was drafted into the Army in February 1964 and was honorably discharged as a SPEC 4 in February 1966. He was a Vietnam Veteran and was proud to serve his country. He worked for the City of Litchfield, First District and Cold Spring Granite. He retired in 2003. Jack enjoyed driving for Council of Aging for 7 years and especially enjoyed being the volunteer driver for the Meeker County Veterans Van to the Minneapolis VA Hospital for 11 years. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church and was an usher. Jack was a member of the American Legion and a Life Member of the VFW Post 2818. He was a member of the Drill Team and Honor Guard for 49 years. He enjoyed traveling, camping, having campfires with family and friends, landscaping the yard and keeping their vehicles immaculate with at least 8 coats of wax on them. He so loved his wife, and also his nephews and niece and their children. We will all miss him very much. Jack is survived by his wife LaVerne Decker of Litchfield, MN; sisters-in-law LaVonne Canfield of Bruce, WI and Leona Hanson of Coleraine, MN; special brothers Steve (Gloria) Koehn of Litchfield, MN, Jerry (JoAnn) Koehn of Prior Lake, MN, Howie (Laurie) Koehn of Litchfield, MN; nephews Allen (Jan) Canfield and family of River Falls, WI, Jason (Christy) Canfield and family of River Falls, WI, and Noah (Samantha) Hanson and family of Litchfield, MN; niece Michelle (Jerry) Czyscon and family of Bruce, WI.; and brother Robert Decker of Hutchinson, MN. He is also survived by his cats Garfield and Sylvester and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Lorraine; stepfather Roy Johnson; father and mother-in-law Everett and Addie Linders; special mom Ruth Koehn Linders and 5 beloved pets.
