Joel Gilbert

Joel Elmer Gilbert (61), son of Stephen and Shirley (Hansen) Gilbert. He was born on February 2nd, 1962, in Litchfield, Minnesota. He was called to Heaven on March 26th, 2023.

He was raised in the Grove City area where he attended school. He later attained his GED degree. After school Joel traveled across the country living in places from New York to California, working many jobs that he loved to tell stories about. After many years of traveling he moved back to the family farm. From there he worked at Jennie-O Foods where he met his wife of 30 years; Sharon. Then working lastly at 3M in Hutchinson before becoming physically disabled and being unable to work.

Joel and his wife made their life together on the family farm north of Grove City. Their marriage was blessed with three beautiful children, Jessica, Samantha, Sean, and one grandchild, Adelaide.

Joel loved watching old movies, reminiscing about his youth and family antics involving his siblings. He also loved listening to music while out in the barn working on our cars, tractors, and lawnmowers, depending on what was broken down at the time and needed fixing.

Joel is survived by his wife; Sharon (Powlish) Gilbert, Children; Jessica Gilbert of Atwater, Samantha Gilbert (Gabe) of Willmar, Sean Gilbert (Courtney) of Grove City, his much loved Granddaughter Adelaide of Atwater who brought him so much joy in his last 5 years, brother Eugene Gilbert of Fridley, sister Sharon Gilbert of Litchfield, sister-in-laws; Joan Gilbert of California, and Sharon Gilbert of Idaho, along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Joel was preceded in death by his parents Stephen and Shirley Gilbert, brothers: Stephen, John, Richard, and Gary Gilbert, and infant nephew Dylan Gilbert.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday March 31, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City, MN.   Visitation will be held from 9:00 - 11:00 AM prior to the service at church.
