Janet Marie Olson

Janet M. Olson, age 62, of Litchfield died on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at her home in Litchfield. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 PM on Thursday at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home. Interment will be held in Lake Ripley Cemetery. Jan was born on July 11, 1953 in Canby, MN to Clinton W. and Iona M. (Hendrickson) Olson. She was baptized at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Canby, MN. In 1955, the family moved to Atwater, then to Litchfield in 1958 where she began her education in the Litchfield Public School system. On June 9, 1968 Jan was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, MN. She graduated in the Litchfield High School class of 1971. Jan attended the University of MN and St. Cloud State University and received her bachelor's degree in Special Education in 1975. She continued her education by taking graduate courses in the evenings while teaching during the day. Her teaching career included 4 schools within the Minneapolis inner city public school system and the Meeker County D.A.C. during their first year in operation where she developed the infant/preschool and work activity programs. For several years Jan was employed at Camellia Rose, Inc. in Coon Rapids, MN, a residential center for the developmentally disabled where she worked in both direct care and administration. For many years, Jan was given the honor and privilege of caring for her parents during their extended illnesses. She counted this as one of the greatest joys of her life, along with helping to care for her godson Tim during his early years. The most important and greatest love of Jan's life was that of her Savior and Lord, Jesus. She readily admitted to being a bit impatient at times in wanting to be with Him in her new home in heaven. She also deeply loved and enjoyed being with her family and friends and grand niece and nephews Rose, Joshua, and Jeffery. Jan enjoyed summers at the lake, RVing, and did quite a lot of traveling, seeing much of the United States and several European countries, celebrating her 25th birthday in the mountains of Norway. She especially enjoyed her visits to her parent's winter retirement home in Mission, TX. Jan is survived by her brothers Dean Olson, Cordell Olson, sister JoAnn Deviney, Beloved nieces and nephews Jina (Dave) Philpot, Tim (Amanda) Olson, Sarah (Nat) King, Elizabeth Deviney, and Patrick Deviney. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister-in-law Connie Olson, and brother-in-law Barry Deviney.
