Irma I. Magnuson, age 88, of Grove City died on Thursday, January 28, 2010, peacefully at the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on February 9, 2010 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City with Pastor Jean Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday, February 8th at Trinity Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Grove City.
Irma Irene Magnuson, the daughter of John and Cora (Haines) Beard, was born on August 9, 1921, in Manannah, Minnesota. She received her education from District 51 in Manannah and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1938. On January 14, 1939, she was united in marriage to Vernon Magnuson in Minneapolis. Together they farmed in the Grove City and Manannah area. She owned and operated a restaurant for two years and then was a clerk for Nelson Brothers for 20 years. Irma was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran and Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City; teaching Sunday School and being part of the Women’s Group. Irma was a 4-H leader, site manager at the Grove city Historical Society Museum and volunteer for the Care Office in Grove City. She enjoyed working with people, cooking, sewing and also reading.
She is survived by her sons; Robert (and Patricia) Magnuson of Manassas Park, VA, Larry Magnuson of Las Vegas, NV, and John (and Julie) Magnuson of Phoenix, AZ, six grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vernon, daughter-in-law Somkit Magnuson, and brother Jesse (and Ruth) Beard and sister Debora (and Earl) Brown.
