Ila June Nelson

Ila J. Nelson, age 90, of Grove City died on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the Ecumen Emmanuel Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, March 14th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City and also one hour prior to the service. Ila June Nelson, the daughter of Elmer and Ida (Swenson) Youngberg, was born on June 8, 1925 in Sauk Rapids, MN. She grew up in Sauk Rapids and graduated from Sauk Rapids High School in 1943. She continued her education at Concordia College graduating in 1947. Following college she began teaching in Grove City. She taught there for two years before moving to Moorhead to teach. On June 24, 1951, she was united in marriage to Lester ""Pete"" Nelson at the Mission Covenant Church in St. Cloud. They made their home in Grove City. Ila continued to teach for a short time before taking time off to raise her children. She eventually resumed teaching in Grove City and taught for a total of thirty years. Ila was very active in her church, community and school. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and then Trinity Lutheran Church. She moved to Bethany assisted living two years ago. Ila loved quilting and was involved in quilting retreats. She enjoyed reading, playing Bridge and spending the summers at their cabin on Lake Alexander. She is survived by her husband Lester ""Pete"" Nelson of Grove City; children, Rebecca (and John) Vann of Tacoma, WA, Mary Juhnke (and friend Bill Janssen) of Olivet, SD; grandchildren Cameron (and Brittany) Vann, Tracy Vann and great grandson Cohen Vann. She is also survived by her brother Ellard (and LaVerne) Youngberg of Reedly, CA and sister Jeanette Anthony of West Palm Beach, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Barbara, brother Melvin Youngberg and sister Dora Halstead.
