Herbert H. Eiler, age 86, of Litchfield, died on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at the VA Hospital in St. Cloud, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield, MN with Father Joseph Steinbeisser officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Friday at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield, MN with a 5:00 PM Prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday. Interment will be held in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Litchfield, MN. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Herbert Henry Eiler, the son of Frank and Mary (Jueneman) Eiler, was born on May 11, 1925 in Bird Island, MN, where he received his education. He served in US Army and received the Bronze Star Medal in the Pacific Theater of Operations during the Southern Philippines Campaign. After being discharged, he attended Agriculture School and started farming near Cosmos, MN. He was united in marriage to Irene Wagner on November 20, 1956 at the St. Catherine's Church in Redwood Falls, MN. Together they moved to Litchfield in 1968, when Herb began working for Custom Products until his retirement. Herb was a member of the Church of St. Philip, a lifetime member of the Admiral Benson V.F.W. Post #2818 and a member of the Nelsan-Horton American Legion Post #104. He enjoyed gardening, reading, watching the history channel and western movies, playing cards, fishing, praying the rosary and spending time with his family.
Herb is survived by his children, Eugene (and Donna) Eiler of Spring Lake Park and their 3 children, Mary Turner of Little Canada, MN and her 2 children, Carol (and Alan) Kelash of Foley, MN and their 7 children, Catherine Eiler of Litchfield, MN, Leonard Eiler of Fridley, MN and his 2 children, Margaret Thompson of White Bear Lake, MN and her 2 children and Mark Eiler of Minneapolis, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary; wife Irene; sons, David and Joseph; brothers, Edward and Francis; and sisters, Geraldine and infant sister Elizabeth.Previous Events
