Helen M. Miller

Helen M. Miller, age 102, of Darwin, MN, died on Monday, September 26, 2016 at the Rice Care Center in Willmar, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 30, 2016 at the Church of St. John in Darwin, MN. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 PM on Thursday at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home with a 4:00 PM Rosary service and a 7:00 PM Prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. Interment will be held in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Darwin, MN. Helen M. Miller, the daughter of Francis and Sophia (Gabrelcik) Pollock was born on May 13, 1914 in Darwin, MN. She grew up in rural Darwin where she attended country school. She was baptized, confirmed and received her first communion at the Church of St. John. She worked for Litchfield Produce prior to her marriage. Helen was united in marriage to James LeRoy Miller on November 5, 1935 at the Church of St. John in Darwin. During their first few years of marriage, they rented a farm near School District 15 where the teachers often stayed with them. They purchased a farm in rural Darwin in 1944, where they lived and farmed for many years. Following the death of James LeRoy in 1971, Helen continued living on the farm, staying busy making and selling crafts and quilts. She also helped with catering and worked for Ewald's Apple Orchard. In 2005, Helen moved to Kandiyohi to make her home with her youngest daughter Sharon, Steve and family and later moved to the Rice Care Center in Willmar. She was a member of the Church of St. John in Darwin where she was active in the CCW and the church craft and sewing groups. She was also a member of the Darwin Community Women's Club and the Mothers Club of District 42. Helen was a devoted wife and mother who spent most of her life caring for her family. She always had a purpose in life and enjoyed entertaining, baking, sewing, quilting, fishing, gardening, canning and making pickles. She is survived by her children Jerome (Patricia) Miller of Buffalo, MN, Joan Boerner of Bloomington, MN, Janet (Dennis) Sturm of St. James, MN, Marlene Price of Yucca Valley, CA, David (Susan) Miller of Buffalo, MN, Patricia (Carleton) Niemand of Montevideo, MN and Sharon (Steve) Onnen of Kandiyohi, MN; 19 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Cynthia Miller; and sister-in-law Frances Pollock.
