Helen Dougherty

Helen M. Dougherty, age 91, died on Monday, December 24, 2012, at the Ecumen Emmanuel Home in Litchfield, MN. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 4, 2013 at First Lutheran Church in Litchfield, MN, with Pastor Christa Forsythe officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery. Helen Marie Dougherty, the daughter of Peder and Caroline (Tweit) Nyhammer, was born on October 24, 1921, in Glenwood, MN. She received her education in Excelsior High School graduating in 1942. She was united in marriage to Dan Dougherty on September 5, 1942 in Berkley, California. In 1948 they moved to Wayzata, MN and to Litchfield, MN in 1991. She was a long time member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Wayzata, MN and a member of the First Lutheran Church in Litchfield, MN. She was an active volunteer at Emmanuel Nursing Home. She enjoyed fishing, golfing, needlework, cooking, cleaning, church activities such as ladies guild and assisting with funeral lunches, baking and entertaining especially family dinners. She especially enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She is survived by her children Kathleen (and Jack) Dayon of Huntley, IL, Dan (and Mary) Dougherty of Litchfield, MN and Polly Money of Litchfield, MN, 8 grandchildren; Sarah Ober, Amy (and Josh) McCall, Steve (and Laurie) Dayon, Bob (and Maria) Dougherty, Misty (and Danny) Hayward, Becky (Chris Hassett) Money, Nick Money and Ashly (Zach) Clark; great grandchildren; Tristan Ober, Seamus Ober, Kathleen Ober, Norah Ober, Galvin McCall, Dayon McCall, Bereket McCall, Caroline Dayon, Owen Dayon, Cole Dougherty, Meaghan Dougherty, Jessica Hayward, J.T. Hayward, Jordan Hayward, Jaymee Hayward, Makenzy Hassett, Natalie Hassett, Amy Nicole Kovall, Lucas and Leeland Clark, sister Solveig Carlton of Florence, SC and brother Haakon (and Lucille) Nyhammer of Kingston, MN.
