Harvie Obar

Harvie L. Obar, age 86, died on Monday, July 27, 2009, at Lakeview Ranch, Dassel, MN. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Peace Lutheran Church in Arlington with Pastor Samuel Morsching officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church in Arlington on Friday. Interment will be in Arlington City Cemetery with military honors provided by Arlington Honor Guard. Harvie Lee Obar, the son of Ivy and Exa (Tullos) Obar, was born on September 26, 1922 in Girard, Texas. He moved to Globe, Arizona and worked at a hotel where he met his future bride. Harvie was united in marriage to Evelyn Lorraine Olson, on June 17, 1942, at Apache Mission in Whiteriver, Arizona. They lived in Eastern Texas for a while after they were married. They then made their home in Arlington, Minnesota for almost 40 years and were blessed with three children. He served during WWII, in Germany, in the U.S Army 242nd Field Artillery from January 1943 through October 1945. Harvie was a lifetime member of the Arlington American Legion. While living in Arlington he served on the Arlington City Council and was an elder at Peace Lutheran Church. Harvie worked for Central Telephone Company for 32 years, retiring in 1984. Harvie and Evelyn moved to rural Eden Valley and lived for about 17 years before moving to Litchfield. While in Litchfield, he was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Harvie is survived by his wife Evelyn Obar of Litchfield, children Claudia Hahn of Moose Lake, Eugene “Gene” (and Marie) Obar of Eden Valley and Mark (and Cindy) Obar of Litchfield. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter and his brother Claud Obar of Troup, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother and great granddaughter Ryley Arnold. Memorials may be made to the Dementia Foundation.
