Harold J. Dilley, age 88, of Litchfield died on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday April 27th at the Church of St. Philip with a parish prayer service at 8:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services at the church with a Rosary prayer by the Knights of Columbus at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery with military honors by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Harold Joseph Dilley, the son of Vern and Ethel (Lytton) Dilley, was born on January 17, 1927, in Webster City, Iowa. His family moved to Darwin when he was young and he attended school in Litchfield where he was a state champion wrestler. He would later be inducted into the Litchfield High School Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2003. Harold served in the US. Navy from 1944 until 1946. After his service he returned to Litchfield and finished his schooling, graduating from Litchfield High School in 1947. On August 2, 1947, he was united in marriage to Joyce Jahn.
They made their home in Litchfield until they moved to Darwin in 1959. Ten years later they moved back to Litchfield. Harold held several positions while working at First District and was also the Union Steward for several years. He also worked part time at Dale's 76 gas station. He retired from First District in 1990. Harold was a member of the Church of St. Philip and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the American Legion and VFW and served on the Litchfield Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed camping, fishing and bowling. He also enjoyed driving. He and Joyce traveled on many trips through the Midwest visiting family. Having morning coffee with his coffee group and watching Jeopardy with Joyce where two things he did not miss. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Litchfield; children, Jean Lewellyn of Oakdale, Nancy (and Lamont) Pearson of Darwin, Kay (and Charles) Eggen of Minot, ND, Mike (and Pat) Dilley of Litchfield, Jerry Dilley of Chaska, Dan (and Cindy) Dilley of Eagan, Deb Dilley and fiancé Donnie Kramp of Litchfield, Mary (and Doug) Lundberg of Litchfield and Kim (and Kyle) Stenmark of Litchfield; 28 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Bertha (and Dick) Parker of Des Moines, Iowa, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and 1 sister.
