Gloria E. Boline, age 83, of Litchfield died on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 7, 2013, at the Ostmark Lutheran Church in Rural Watkins. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 6th from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Ostmark Lutheran Cemetery. Gloria Eunice Boline (Hallberg) was born May 21, 1930 in KingstonTownship in MeekerCounty to Edwin and Gazella (Erickson) Hallberg. She grew up in the Kingston area and graduated from LitchfieldHigh School in 1948 before attending St. Cloud Teacher's College where she graduated with a two year teaching license. She spent her career as a school teacher starting as an elementary school teacher in Springfield, MN. She went on to teach in various country schools in Meeker county and in the Litchfield Public School System for over 34 years. Her true love was teaching children to read. During her teaching career Gloria also earned her Bachelors and Master's degree in education. Gloria was united in marriage to Lincoln Johnson in 1951 . They were married for 21 years until Lincoln's death in 1970. They farmed in MeekerCounty for many years.
Gloria was a lifetime member of Ostmark Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed, and married. She spent a number years teaching Sunday School, Bible School, participating in LCW and WELCA, and in the building committee for the new church. Gloria was then married to Rudolph F. Boline in 1973. They lived in MeekerCounty for many years, participating in community activities including the Peanut Butter and Milk Festival and in the Kingston American LegionAuxiliary. Upon her retirement as a school teacher she and Rudy moved to LakeOwen at Big Fork in 1993, living there in the summer, and wintering in Arizona. She was active in Big Fork and Mesa, Arizona communities as a volunteer. They moved to Litchfield in 2000, and split their time between there and Mesa. Gloria enjoyed painting, quilting making, loyally cheering for the Minnesota Twins, being with friends and family, and watching her grandchildren perform in music and sports.
Gloria is survived by children Greg (Barb) Johnson of Litchfield, Karla (Steve) Hughes of St. Paul, Sara (Patrick) Messelt of Savage and Andrea (Joel) Leafblad of Watkins; nine grandchildren, Ryan (Nikki) Johnson, Andrew (Hege) Johnson, Kim (Jordan) Marshall, Claire (Justin) Julson, Lincoln Hughes (Kayla Osowski), Audrey Messelt, William Leafblad, Maxwell Messelt, and Oliver Leafblad; seven great grandchildren Hannah and Sam Johnson, Magnus and Oliver Johnson, and Ethan, Lexi and Bryce Marshall. She is also survived by one brother Edwin Hallberg, and two sisters Karen (John) Olson and Kris Koran, and sister in laws Myrtle Johnson and Regina Johnson, many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husbands Lincoln Johnson, Rudolph F. Boline, parents Edwin and Gazella Hallberg, many brothers in law and sisters in law, along with numerous relatives and loved ones.
