Gladys Munson

Gladys Munson, age 94, of rural Watkins passed away Friday, May 1, 2015 at Hilltop Health Care Center, Watkins. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, May 4, 2015 at Ostmark Lutheran Church with interment at Ostmark Cemetery. The Rev. Joe Midthun will officiate, and Cindy Knutson will serve as the organist. Congregational hymns to be sung are ""Amazing Grace,"" "" How Great Thou Art,"" and ""The Old Rugged Cross."" Pallbearers are Bradley Munson, David Munson, Orlin Olson, Douglas Kersten, Ronald Meline, and Edward Meline. Gladys Viola Munson was born in North Kingston Township, MN, October 9, 1920, to Carl and Ida (Johnson) Meline, the youngest of ten children. She was baptized November 5, 1921, and confirmed July 14, 1935 at Ostmark Lutheran Church. Gladys attended District 3 country school, Litchfield High School for two years, and graduated from Kimball High School in 1938. After graduation she attended Beauty College for two years and worked as a beautician for ten years. She began working for Northern States Power in 1950 and worked there for 27 years. Gladys and Earl K. Munson were married November 19, 1960 and shared 54 years of marriage. They lived in an apartment in Minneapolis their first years of marriage and spent weekends at their country home near Watkins. After retirement, they spent many hours gardening at their country home. Gladys and Earl will be remembered for the strawberries, rhubarb, and apples they shared with others. Gladys's favorite way to share her strawberries with visitors was with ice cream, her favorite food. Gladys and Earl enjoyed traveling and took at least twenty extended stay trips, including Sweden, Switzerland, England, Canada, Hawaii, and many other states. They visited Hostfest in Minot, North Dakota, sixteen times. Gladys is survived by her husband, Earl, ten nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Elmer, Archie, Clarence, and Rudolph; five sisters, Lillian Baker, Edith Dahlgren, Myrtle Rathmanner, Amy Pancake, and Violet Dye; three nieces and three nephews.
