Gert M. Winter

Gert Winter, 89 of Watkins, died Thursday, January 13, 2011 at the Hilltop Care Center in Watkins. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 17, 2011 at 10:30 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins. Rev. John Brunner, Rev. Don Wagner and Rev. Richard Gross will officiate. Music will be by Kathy Pauls. Casket bearers are grandchildren, Barry Arnold, Curt Zutz, Brian Moehrle, Aaron Winter, Josh Winter, Dustin Winter, Kyle Winter and Grant Winter. Burial will be in the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Watkins. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday and from 8:00 to 10:00 am on Monday at the Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins. Watkins Senior Citizens will pray the rosay at 4:00 pm on Sunday at the funeral home followed by parish prayers at 6:00 pm and Legion/Vfw prayers at 7:00 pm. Arrangements are by the Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins. Gert Winter was born on June 20, 1921 at Douglas, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Joseph and Katherine (Dockendorf) Wagner. She married Norbert Winter on June 25, 1946 at Clearwater, MN. They farmed near Watkins and Gert operated a beauty shop for many years. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins and was active with the Council of Catholic Women. She was also a member of the Watkins Senior Citizens, Wat-Kim-Valley VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her hobbies included embroidering, gardening, baking and canning and she especially enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Diane and Bill Arnold of Watkins, Bonnie Zutz of Kimball, Vicki and Martin Moehrle of Eden Valley, Ron and Denise Winter of Kimball, Dan and Tammy Winter of Watkins; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; sisters and their spouses, Theresa and Don Olsen of St. Cloud, Alvina Abeln of St. Cloud, Cele and Bob Manniello of Sunnydale, CA. Gert was preceded in death by her husband, Norbert on Jan.8, 2009 and brothers, Andy, Greg and Ray Wagner.
