Gerald 'Bud' F. Lewerenz

Gerald ""Bud"" F. Lewerenz, age 86, of rural Litchfield, MN, died on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield, MN. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at First Lutheran Church in Litchfield, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Military honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Gerald ""Bud"" Frederick Lewerenz, the son of Emil and Florence (Putzier) Lewerenz, was born on August 9, 1925, in Greenleaf Township, MN. He grew up on the family farm in rural Litchfield, with four sisters and one brother. He enlisted in the Army right after graduation and was stationed on the Aleutian Islands, in Alaska where he was a machine gunner serving in World War II. Bud was proud of his tour in the Army and also proud that several of his siblings also enlisted in the military. After the war was over he returned to Litchfield and met and married Doris Johnson on September 21, 1950. He worked as a printer at Reed Publishing in Litchfield until he retired. Bud was artistically talented in many ways. He made snowshoes, worked on taxidermy, was the curator of the Litchfield Eskimo Museum, and wrote poetry and some hunting stories that were published in the Independent Review while he was in the service. Bud was an amazing outdoorsman. He enjoyed spending time goose hunting, deer hunting, fishing, and just being outdoors. Bud was always reading, and had a lot of knowledge. He loved to talk politics, and will be remembered for his persistent manners; often shown with conversations starting with ""You need to understand this…"" He was a good husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his mother Florence; father Emil; brother John; and sister Fern.
