Gerald Bernard Janey

Gerald B. Janey, age 58, of Litchfield, MN died on Friday, October 1, 2010 at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 3, 2010 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield, MN with a Mass of Christian Burial at 6:00 PM with Father Joseph Steinbeisser as celebrant. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Interment will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 4, at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery ""Camp Ripley"" in Little Falls, MN. Gerald B. Janey was born on June 28, 1952 to Phillip and Evangeline (Lange) Janey in Little Falls, MN. He grew up near Sobieski and attended school in Swanville graduating in 1970. After high school he worked for Larson Boats and Franklin Manufacturing. He served in the US Army from 1972 to 1974. After he returned from military service, he continued his education at St. Cloud Vo. Tech graduating in 1976. He lived in Rice, MN and worked as a bulk milk truck driver while in school and for a short time after graduating. Gerry was united in marriage to Mary Van Hercke on November 13, 1976 in Little Falls, MN. They moved to Litchfield when Gerry took a job with Ideal Lumber, where he worked for 21 years. He then worked for Miller Architects and Builders for 5 years and Marcus Construction for 5 years in Prinsburg as a Job Superintendant. Gerald was a member of the American Legion Post #104, the Litchfield Volunteer Fire Department, the Knights of Columbus and was an active member of the Church of St. Philip. He enjoyed helping his son with building projects, fishing, ice fishing, deer hunting, riding motorcycle with his 'crew', snowmobiling, playing cribbage and horseshoes and trips to the Dairy Queen. Gerald always found the positive things in life. Gerry is survived by his wife, Mary of Litchfield, MN; son, Eric Janey of Litchfield, mother, Evangeline Janey, siblings; Pat (and Kathy) Janey, Kevin (and Anita) Janey, Jeff (and Rose) Janey all of Little Falls, Phillip (and Anita) Janey of St. Joseph, Mark Janey of St. Cloud, Sharon (and Dan) Klisch of Clear Lake, Mary Ann (and Pete) Klemmer of Albany and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Janey of St. Joseph, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Phillip, paternal and maternal grandparents; brother, Gerard; father and mother-in-law, Ray and Jeannette VanHercke and several aunts and uncles.
