George J. Mihlbauer, age 79, of Litchfield died on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at St. Philip's Catholic Church. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. A parish prayer service will be held at 4:00PM on Wednesday at the funeral home and the Knights of Columbus will pray the Rosary at 10:15 AM on Thursday. Interment will be in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. George Joseph Mihlbauer, the son of Richard and Rose (Berle) Mihlbauer, was born on March 26, 1931, in Litchfield, Minnesota. He grew up and received his education in Litchfield, graduating in 1949. He was united in marriage to Eileen Wimmer on January 30, 1952 at St. Gertrude's Catholic Church in Forest City. George spent many years working in supermarkets as a meat cutter. He worked at Sam's Supermarket, Piggly Wiggly, Bernies Fairway and Red Owl. He also worked at the Baumgartner Hatchery and for many years he cut meat for Roy Nelson's Meat Market. George was very active volunteering in the community. He spent 22 years driving the van to meal sites and spent time on the rescue squad. He was a member of the Church of St. Philip, Eagles, Jaycee's and the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. George loved dancing, singing, fishing, swimming, volunteering, gardening, and bird watching. He was also great at catching squirrels. George is survived by his wife, Eileen of Litchfield, children, Donna (and Sherwin) Luthens of Hutchinson, Gary Mihlbauer of Litchfield, Debra Tenold of Medford, George Richard (and Arlette) Mihlbauer of Fargo, and Greg Mihlbauer of Litchfield; grandchildren, Jodi (and Steve) Faber, Mindy (and Ross) Smeby, Molly (and John) Salmon, Allyson Tenold, Lindsay Tenold, Ashley Mihlbauer, Tyler Mihlbauer and Preston Mihlbauer; great grandchildren, Nathan and Allie Faber, Conner, Aidan and Clayton Salmon; brother Richard Mihlbauer of Sartell. He is preceded in death by his parents; and infant son George James and a sister Rose. Previous Events
