George G. Meline

George G. Meline, age 75, of Litchfield, MN died at the Ecumen Emmanuel Home in Litchfield, MN on Friday, June 20, 2014. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, MN. A visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Monday at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield, MN and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be held in Lake Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield, MN. George Gustav Meline, the son of Elmer and Esther (Anderson) Meline, was born on February 19, 1939 in Kingston, MN. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1957 and continued his education at St. Cloud State University, graduating in 1972. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Masteller at St. Matthews United Church of Christ in Forest City on December 14, 1968. Throughout his life George lived in Eden Valley and Litchfield. He worked for Northwestern Bank and Holm Brothers before he opened the Kingston Mini Mart that he owned and operated until retiring in 2000. George served in the National Guard and was the treasurer for the Meeker County Red Cross. He was a member of Ostmark Lutheran Church from 1939 to 2002 where he was active on the church council and served as treasurer. In 2002, he became a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he was active in OWLS. He had a genuine interest in farming and was often found in conversation about the weather and agriculture. George enjoyed coin collecting, traveling, spending time with his family and taking an occasional trip to the casino. George is survived by his wife Marilyn Meline of Litchfield, MN; children, Brian (Kim) Meline of Stafford VA, Carrie (Brian) Loebertmann of Albertville, MN and Katie (Michael) Kotlyar of Minneapolis, MN; 6 grandchildren; brother Edward (Arlene) Meline of Brooklyn Park, MN; and sisters, Joann (Lloyd Johnson) Strand of South Haven, MN, Dorothy (Douglas) Kersten of Fair Haven, MN and Sandra (Joe Desua) Glessing of Big Lake, MN.
