George V. Durken, age 86 of Litchfield, MN died on Wednesday December 5, 2018 at his home in Litchfield, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday December 10, 2018 at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield, MN. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 PM on Sunday December 9, 2018 at the Church of St. Philip with a 3:45 pm Rosary and a 7:00 pm prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Monday. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Litchfield, MN. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. George Victor Durken, the son of John and Magdalen (Czycalla) Durken was born on March 22, 1932 in Eden Valley, MN. He attended Litchfield High School and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict as a Military Police. He was united in marriage to Helen Coufal at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia, MN on July 23, 1955 and together they farmed in rural Litchfield. Upon retiring from farming, they moved a few miles down the road to Lake Richardson, where they would spend the next 28 years of lake life, working in their garden, yardwork and fishing. They retired to Litchfield one and a half years ago. He was a dedicated blood donor, giving over 17 gallons of blood. He was a member of the Church of St. Philip and was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. George collected toy tractors and enjoyed wood working, fishing, going to coffee with his friends and spending time with his family. George is survived by his wife Helen of Litchfield, MN; children Kevin (Deb) Durken of St. Cloud, MN, Betty Jo (Rick) Halls of Clearwater, MN, Scott (Kari) Durken of Dassel, MN and Nancy Larson of St. Michael, MN; four grandchildren Brandon (Cassie) Durken, Kelsey (Jon) Barrick, Erin (Steven) Hendrickson and Jason Durken; and six great grandchildren Aiden and Callie Durken, Ecko and Nani Barrick and Cameron and Nora Hendrickson. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Magdalen.
