Gary R. Larson, age 82, formerly of Grove City, died on February 20, 2016 at the Dassel Lakeside Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City. Visitation will be at the church Saturday from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the church. Interment will be held in First Lutheran Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Gary Larson the son of Oliver and Adelia (Christoffer) Larson was born on November 25, 1933 in Swede Grove Township. He grew up and received his education in the Grove City area, graduating from Grove City High School in 1951. Following graduation he enlisted in the US Navy and served from 1952 until 1956 during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Finneman on January 19, 1957 in Minneapolis. They lived in Minneapolis for a short time before moving to Swede Grove Township where Gary engaged in farming. Gary was the Swede Grove assessor from 1961 until 2010. He also worked as a bus driver for Peterson Bus Company and enjoyed hauling sweet corn. Gary was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 104 and the VFW Post 2818. He also was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He served on the district 1108 country school board. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and shaking dice. He also enjoyed dancing, listening to country music and his Harley Davidson motor cycles.
Gary is survived by his wife, Kathy Larson of Litchfield, children, Jean Larson of Litchfield, Sandy (Chris) Bostrom of Darwin, Minnesota and Roger (Chris) Larson of Grove City. He is also survived by grandchildren, Sarah (Domonik) Blanton, Amanda (Ray) Loew, Jenny Lamecker, Megan Larson, Tyler Larson, Erik (Lauren) Bostrom; great grandchildren, Hayley Polzin, Paige Polzin and Morgan Polzin, Gage Williams, Claire Bostrom, and Garrett Loew; sisters Donna Norland of Duluth, Sharlene Quello of Atwater, Shirley Bridges of Tucson and Marcella Rueckert of Fergus Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Betty LaBelle and infant brother Douglas. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. Previous Events
