Floyd Fjerstad

Floyd R. Fjerstad, age 97, of Litchfield, MN, died on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield, MN. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home, Litchfield, MN with Intern Pastor Christa Forsythe officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery Cemetery, Litchfield, MN. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Floyd Rodney Fjerstad, the son of and John and Bertha Bendick, was born on December 1, 1911 in Wabay, South Dakota. He was united in marriage to Alice Hoel in Hoffman, MN on April 18, 1937. Floyd lived in Brown Valley, Alexandria, Hoffman, Atwater and Litchfield. He served in the US Navy during World War II from 1937 to 1941. Floyd was a diesel mechanic in Hoffman, MN and worked as a welder at Cozy Cab in Litchfield, MN. He enjoyed wood working, duck carving, fishing and riding bike. Floyd is survived by his children Betty Jean Fjerstad of Minneapolis, MN, Paul David (and Mary) Fjerstad of San Diego, CA; Steve Fjerstad of Grove City, Penny (and Tom) Jessop of Frazee, MN, Stephanie (and David) Westlund of Waverly, MN, Tom (and Cindy) Fjerstad of Woodbury, MN, and Joe Fjerstad of Mankato, MN; 19 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Bertha; wife Alice; and son Ben.
