Evelyn ""Evie"" F. Atkinson, age 74, of Litchfield, MN, entered eternal life on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the Cherrywood of Richmond, in Richmond, MN. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 2, 2011 at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield, MN with Father Joseph Steinbeisser as Celebrant. A visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the Church of St. Philip with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Litchfield, MN. Evelyn Frances Atkinson, the daughter of Stanley and Regina (Woidyla) Blascziek, was born on March 9, 1937 in Stearns County, MN. She grew up in St. Anna, MN, and graduated from Holdingford High School in 1955. Following her education, Evelyn went to Minneapolis where she worked as a secretary. On October 7, 1957, Evelyn married Fred Atkinson at the Immaculate Conception Church in St. Anna, MN. Together they bought a house in Bloomington, where they lived until moving to Litchfield, MN in 1973. She taught CCD classes for over 25 years at the Nativity of Mary Catholic Church in Bloomington and the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield. She attended and graduated from a two year Bible Study course that prepared her for mission work in Jamaica. Evelyn was an active member of the Church of St. Philip, where she was a lector, a lay distributor, a church choir member, and active in the Ladies Aid and funeral committee, where she was very comfortable with food as she was a good cook. She was a Communion Eucharistic Minister for the homebound and was the hostess, greeter and caller for the Christian Women for many years. She was the international coordinator of Region 6 Parishes that initiated many projects, such as making quilts, infant outfits, lap blankets and ditty bags for 3rd World Countries. Evie was often in thoughtful prayer for her family and friends and enjoyed music, dancing and baking. Together, Evie and Fred have sponsored a child in Guatemala for many years. Evie was a generous volunteer who donated her time and baking talents for many occasions. She will be remembered as being thoughtful and for her sense of style, humor and playful personality. She is survived by her husband, Fred of Litchfield, MN; children, Jeffrey of Minneapolis, MN, Paul (and Polly) Atkinson of Westminster, Colorado, Alan (and Janette) Atkinson of San Antonio, TX, Randy Atkinson of Minneapolis, MN, Sarah Atkinson of Charlotte, North Carolina and Patrice Atkinson of Maple Grove, MN; grandchildren, Megan and Jacob; and a brother, Chester (and Rosie) of St. Anna, MN.
