Eva Provencher, of Litchfield, died at the Emmanuel Home on January 13, 2009, at the age of 94. A memorial service will be held at the Litchfield United Methodist Church in Litchfield at 1:00 PM, on Saturday, January 17, 2009. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM on Friday at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and will continue one hour before the service. Interment will be at Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield, MN. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be sent to the United Methodist Church.
Eva Mary Manning was born on April 22, 1914, to James and Emily (Johnson-Sundeen) Manning in Greenleaf Township. She married Lee Provencher in Litchfield on August 25, 1942. She taught in rural schools for 20 years and worked along side with Lee when they farmed southwest of Litchfield until 1973 when they moved closer to the city of Litchfield. They ran a fertilizer and chemical company and were known for their hospitality. Every time a customer came, coffee and homemade cookies were offered along with a little conversation. She and Lee retired in 2001.
She was a member of the Litchfield United Methodist Church, and was active with United Methodist Women and the Esther Circle. She was also a member of the Rural Teachers of Meeker County.
Eva was a devoted wife to her husband and a loving parent to her children and grandchildren. She and Lee enjoyed playing cards and Scrabble, watching baseball and slow-pitch softball and collecting and restoring antiques. She did not miss family reunions among relatives. She loved to set a pretty table and was an excellent cook. She was an avid gardener and could put up delicious dill pickles that she shared with family members. Bird watching was a favorite pastime and Eva also was a stamp collector. She was patient and kind in all her doings with people.
She is survived by two sons, Lance and Van (Marcia) of Litchfield and one daughter, Evalee (Tom ) Risley of St. Cloud; nine grandchildren: Mario (Lisa) Provencher, Lauri (Jeremy) Miller, Lonnie (Katie) Provencher, Gennia (Matt) Provencher, Amara (Casey) Deedon, Marisa Provencher, Valayna (Jay) Simon, Tanner (Erika) Bakke, Parker Bakke; nine great-grandchildren: Ava and Ela Provencher, Rheya and Gavan Deedon, Alexander and Mikkyle Miller, Jonah Provencher, Hannah and Leah Simon; two step great-grandchildren, Cole and Michael Simon; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland, two daughters, one sister, three brothers.
