Ethel Barrie

Ethel M. Barrie, age 87, of Litchfield, formerly of Hutchinson, died on Friday, April 23, 2010 at Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Litchfield with Pastor Bill Kerr officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 PM Monday at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday. Interment will be in the French Lake Cemetery. Ethel Margaret Barrie the daughter of Hjalmer and Dagmar (Waataja) Sikkila was born on November 11, 1922 in Kingston, Minnesota. She grew up in Litchfield, attending rural School District #1 and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1940. She was united in marriage to William Barrie on November 26, 1942 in Kingston, MN. Throughout her life Ethel was a cook, working at the Triple D Café in Hutchinson, the Hutchinson High School and the Burns Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of the Hutchinson United Methodist Church and the Litchfield United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women’s group. Ethel enjoyed hunting pheasants and squirrels, fishing during the summer and winter, gardening and having flowers, knitting, crocheting, sewing, reading and doing crossword puzzles. Ethel is survived by her two sons, Stan Barrie of Mount Vernon, Washington and Les (and Kerry) Barrie of Grove City, Minnesota; grandchildren, Stacey (and Eric) Kirn of Stanwood, Washington and Shane (and Renee) Barrie of Stanwood, Washington; great grandchildren, Kelly, Max, and Tori Kirn and Cole, Grant, and Lauren Barrie; brothers Arnold (and Lois) Sikkila of Maple Grove, MN and Marvin Sikkila of Buffalo, MN; and a sister Ellen Anderson of Cokato, MN. She is preceded in death by her husband William; brothers Harry, Clifford and Earl; a sister Irene Anderson; and a daughter-in-law Natalie.
