Estella F.L. Heining

Estella ""Stella"" F. L. Heining, age 97, of Litchfield died on Saturday, November 26, 2011, at Ecumen of Litchfield. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at St. John Lutheran Church north of Atwater. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Estella Frieda Louise Heining, the daughter of Benjamin and Carrie (Paslow) Erne, was born on July 28, 1914, in Terril, Iowa. She was baptized September 5, 1914 in Terril. At the age of two her family moved north of Atwater where she grew up and received her education from country school in rural Atwater. She was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church on May 29, 1929 by Pastor F.E. Pasche. On February 20, 1935, she was married to Arthur Heining at St. John's together they farmed the Heining family farm until 1970. After Art's death Stella stayed on the farm until 1978 when she moved to Atwater. She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church and a strong supporter of the school. She and Art boarded some of the teachers of St. John's school. Stella enjoyed being a farm wife and all that went with it. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, and sewing quilts for family members. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Playing board games and checkers with her grandchildren was a special treat for her. Stella also enjoyed poetry and will be remembered having beautiful hand writing in the many letters she sent. She is survived by her daughter Dianne (and Rand) Thorp of Litchfield and daughter-in-law Patricia Heining of Atwater. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her sister Viola Frost died on the same day as Stella. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Art, and son Marlen Heining.
