Ervin C. Walters, 91 of Watkins, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at the Hilltop Care Center in Watkins. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 10:30 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins with interment in the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. Fr. John Brunner and Fr. Richard Gross will officiate. Music will be by Kathy Pauls. Casket bearers will be Dale Walters, Rodney Walters, Ronald Hartneck, Dale Marschel, Duane Marschel, and Roger Marschel. Arrangements are with the Ertl Funeral Home, Watkins. Ervin C. Walters was born on January 3, 1920 at St. Nicholas, Stearns County, Minnesota. He was the son of John and Katherine (Rausch) Walters. Ervin served in the U.S. Army from June 1942 to Oct. 1945 and was involved in all 8 major campaign battles. He earned the Bronze and Silver Star medals and the France Liberation Medal of Honor. On November 12, 1949, Ervin was united in marriage to Lillian Marschel in Minneapolis. They resided in Minneapolis and Bloomington where Ervin was employed as a foreman for Model Stone Company for 35 years. Ervin retired in 1983 and they moved to a home on Clear Lake near Watkins. Ervin was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins. He was also a member of the Kimball American Legion. His hobbies included fishing and hunting, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and dancing. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Ervin and Lillian loved to travel and have visited both coasts, Hawaii, and were to Alaska three times. Ervin became ill about a year ago and was recently hospitalized. He became a resident at the Hilltop Care Center in Watkins on Feb. 4th where he passed away on Feb. 15th at the age of 91 years, I month and 12 days. Ervin is survived by his wife, Lillian Walters of Watkins; children and their spouses, Barbara and Bill Liedman of Kimball, Beverly and Richard Arten of Burnsville, Kathleen and Michael Ryan of Dellwood, Thomas and ReneeA�A�A½ Walters of Pine River, Todd and Traci Walters of Darwin; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lucetta Walters of Watkins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, Peter, Louis, Ernie, Norb and Elmer Walters, Marie VanNurden, Ann Neu, Caroline Helmbrecht, Christine Schreiner and Viola Hartneck.
