Elmer Frederick Wieker

Elmer F. Wieker, age 99, of Litchfield, died on Thursday, February 27, 2014, at the Ecumen Emmanuel Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Visitation will be held from4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 4th at the Augustana Chapel in Litchfield and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Glencoe City Cemetery. Elmer Frederick Wieker the son of Martin and Alta (Johnson) Wieker, was born in Havelock, Iowa on January 26, 1915. He was baptized on May 16, 1915, in Iowa and was confirmed May 25, 1930 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Cedar Mills, MN. Elmer moved with his family to Bird Island, MN around 1919 and then to Cedar Mills in 1928. He attended one year of Parochial School at St. John's Lutheran Church in Cedar Mills. In 1934, Elmer moved to Detroit, Michigan where he worked as a layout engineer for the Michigan Highway Department and also at the Dodge factory and Willow Run Bomber factory. On July 2, 1938 Elmer married Vivian Steinbeck. They lived on a farm in Rosendale from 1949 to 1960 and then moved to Glencoe from 1960-1972 where he owned a hatchery, feed store, mobile home sales and Chickie's A & W root beer stand. Vivian died June 10, 1965. Elmer married Esther (Turck) Risch on November 11, 1966. In 1973, Elmer retired and moved to Lake Manuella where he and Esther resided for 33 years. They moved to Gloria Dei Manor in April, 2006 . Esther died September 9, 2007. For many years he collected aluminum cans to sell for the benefit of the church. He loved dancing and never tired of listening to old-time music. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and was always an available volunteer to help where needed and was a true friend to all. Elmer has been a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Litchfield since 1973. Elmer is survived by three grandchildren: De Ann (and Mike) Ellingson, Scott Pehle, and Stephanie Wieker; four great grandchildren: Chaz, Leif, Sadie and Caleb Ellingson. Also sisters Lucille Nelson, Dorothy Hetch and brothers Donald, Gary, and Edward. He is also survived by his step-children, Jon (and Sharon) Risch, Cherylynn Risch (and Jim Anderson), Shirley (and Merle) Hanson. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Clarence, Virgil, Gene, Kenneth, Marvin, Martin; sister Norene Madson; first wife Vivian, second wife Esther, daughter Carolyn Pehle son-in-law Burtian Pehle, son Dale, and grandson Paul Wieker.
