Eldred Behrens

Eldred W. Behrens, age 90, of Litchfield, died on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at the Emmanuel Home in Litchfield, MN. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Litchfield with Pastor Samuel Morsching officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Lake Ripley Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Eldred Walter Behrens, the son of William and Minnie (Huemoeller) Behrens was born on December 20, 1918 in Martin County, Fairmont, Minnesota. He grew up and received his education in Fraser Township, Martin County, Minnesota. Eldred farmed until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in May of 1942. He served 3 1/2 years during WWII, 3 of which were spent overseas with the Persian Gulf Command, 334th Army Engineer Regiment, Iran. He was united in marriage to Marytemple Kunard, on March 16, 1946, in Fraser Lutheran Church. Together they farmed in Martin County, MN until 1956, Eden Valley MN until 1964, Litchfield, MN until 2004 and then made their residence in Litchfield, MN. Eldred was a member of the American Legion and a 45 year member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Eldred is survived by his wife Marytemple of Litchfield, children; Douglas (and Kathryn) Behrens of Champlin, MN, Stuart (and Sharon) Behrens of Litchfield, MN, Carol (and Richard) Streufert of Glencoe, MN, Jeannette (and Brian) Cordes of Litchfield, MN and William Behrens of Litchfield, MN, 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, sister-in-law; Verona Behrens of Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
