Elaine V. Piepenburg, age 86, of Litchfield died on Thursday, October 25, 2012, at Emmanuel Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 3, 2012, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Elaine Vernette Piepenburg, the daughter of Hjalmar and Josie (Mathison) Johnson, was born on November 3, 1925 in Grove City, Minnesota. She grew up and received her education in the Grove City area, graduating in 1944. On May 28, 1955, she was united in marriage to Clarence Piepenburg at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grove City. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, sister-in-law Lena Piepenburg Howk-Swanson of Mankato, brothers-in-law Hugo and Alvin Piepenberg of Litchfield, and niece Joyce Piepenburg of Minneapolis. Elaine is survived by her brother Lester (Bette) Johnson of Grove City and sisters-in law Phyllis Piepenburg and Adelaine Piepenberg of Litchfield. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Clyde Johnson, Darren Johnson, and Cindy Johnson Lemm; Donna (Robert) Howk Mertesdorf and Eva Marie (Clark) Howk Webster; Julie (Robert) Piepenburg Plaetz, Jeffrey Piepenburg, Jay (Mary) Piepenburg, Joel (Julie) Piepenburg, Jayne Piepenburg, Vicki (Mark) Piepenburg Fastener, and Tracey (Mardi) Piepenburg; Larry (Carol) Piepenburg, Gail (Bruce) Piepenburg Banks; Lance (Vangie) Piepenburg, Janet Piepenburg Cunningham, and John (Nita) Piepenburg; many grandnieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Elaine and her husband enjoyed living in the country and often invited neighbor boys to hunt on their farm. She liked catering with Muriel Larson because of the opportunity to visit with Grove City friends and neighbors. Elaine was a long-time member and volunteer at Immanuel Lutheran Church and later at Trinity when the churches merged. At her South Grove retirement apartment she participated in two Bible-study groups. Elaine loved to play cards, have weekly breakfasts with her sister-in-law Adelaine, and receive daily phone calls from her sister-in-law Phyllis. And, when Elaine moved to Emmanuel Home last June, she was delighted to discover how many of its residents were former Grove City classmates and friends. Memorials may be given to the Emmanuel Home Hospice Program, Trinity Lutheran Church of Grove City, or the recipient of the donor's choice.Previous Events
