Edwin Swanson, age 78, of Cosmos, passed away Saturday November 29, 2008, at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis. Funeral Service will be Thursday 11:00AM at the First Lutheran Church in rural Cosmos with pastor Marcia Hegna officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00-7:00PM at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and one hour prior to the service at the the church on Thursday. Military Rites will be provided by Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Interment will be at the First Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Edwin Delwayne (Delly) Swanson was born June 7, 1930, in Minneapolis to Edwin and Mildred (Berlin) Swanson. He grew up near Cosmos and received his education at country school District #82. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed in 1945 at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Mills Township. Edwin served his country by joining the United States Army on January 16, 1952, and served overseas during the Korean Conflict. During his time in the military, Edwin pursued radio repair. He was honorably discharged from the military on December 24, 1953. He returned home to the family farm where he farmed and studied to be an electrician. He was employed at Seneca Foods as a combine driver from from 1990 to 2002. Edwin was united in marriage to Myrta Henke on September 2, 1967, in Watertown, SD, and they were blessed with two daughters. He enjoyed farming and loved working with heavy equipment. He was especially fond of his grandchildren. He enjoyed socializing with neighbors and friends.
Edwin is survived by his beloved wife Myrta of Cosmos; daughters: Sandra (Christopher) Jannusch of St. Cloud, MN and Kristin (Kenneth) Cote of Cosmos; step-daughter Cynthia (Dean) Olson of Bloomington, MN; seven grandchildren; three sisters: Grace Kaping of Litchfield, MN, Miriam (David) Rahn of Hutchinson, MN, and Margaret (Michael) Davis of Minnetrista, MN; three brothers: John (Jane) Swanson of Aitken, MN, Ray (Donna) Swanson of Lester Prairie, MN, and Nels (Vickie) Swanson of Hutchinson, MN; and many other loving relatives and friends.
Edwin is preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald, step-mother Elise, step-daughter Sherlyn Marquardt, brother-in-law Darrel and grandson Daniel Beckon.
