Edwin Lentz age 89, of Litchfield, MN, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2016, in Litchfield, MN at the Ecumen Emmanuel Home, Litchfield, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield, MN. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. Edwin Lentz, the son of Benjamin and Laura (Smith) Lentz, was born on July 7, 1926, in Howard, South Dakota. He grew up on a farm 8 ½ miles North West of Howard, South Dakota and attended country school at Stokke School, where he graduated from 8th grade in 1939. In September 1940, Ed entered 9th grade in New Ulm High School and graduated in 1944. In September 1944 he was called into military services and served in the US Army stationed in the Philippines until he was discharged in February 1947. In September of 1947, Ed started college at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. On April 15, 1949, he was united in marriage to Janet Olson of Minneapolis. They made their home in Minneapolis while Edwin finished his degree from the University of Minnesota in 1950. From there, they moved to Adams Minnesota where Edwin open a new Agriculture department at the public school. After 2 years, they moved to Franklin, MN, where Edwin taught agriculture for 7 years and became a high school principal, working for an additional 10 years. In 1969, the family moved to Clear Lake by Watkins and eventually Litchfield, as Edwin became the Business Manager at the Eden Valley Watkins school district, where he retired in 1986. Edwin was active in the Church and the Gideon's ministry. He served on the board with Meeker County Community Homes for 27 years, many of those years as chairman. He and Janet were first grade volunteer helpers at Ripley Elementary School. He also taught 55 Alive, was a tax aide assistant, and volunteered on various activities with mentally and physically handicapped people. He was a devoted husband and father, loving his family dearly. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his sons, Gary (Sandra) Lentz of Augusta, Georgia, Gregg (Bernadette) Lentz of Browerville, MN, Douglas (Wendy) Lentz of Gilbert, Arizona, 8 grandchildren, Rachel (Joey) Osborne, Carrie Miller, Miriam (Glen) Scogin, Joshua Lentz, Marissa Lentz, Megan Lentz, Benjamin Lentz and Morgan Lentz and 8 great grandchildren: Caleb and Hannah Osborne, Titus and Alexis Miller and Emma, Macy, Jackson and Brody Scogin. He was preceded in death by his wife Janet, parents, sister Ruby and brothers Clyde, Wallace and Byron.Previous Events
