Edith E. Haugen

Edith Haugen, age 80 of Litchfield, MN died on Monday, December 24, 2012 at Meeker County Memorial Hospital in Litchfield, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, MN, with Pastor Christian Muellerleile officiating. Visitation will be Friday, December 28, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Roseville Cemetery, Hawick, Minnesota. Edith Haugen, the daughter of William and Minnie (Mead) Kemp, was born on August 18, 1932 in Fahlun Township, Minnesota. Edith was blessed with five children with her first husband Carral Lanning, Sr. and three children with her second husband James Haugen. She always had a strong work ethic and took pride in the jobs she had throughout her life. Edith worked at various restaurants and manufacturing jobs until she found her true calling; working with adults and children with disabilities. She was inspired to extend her work with disabled individuals by implementing a religious education program at Zion Lutheran Church. Edith was able to touch many lives through her ability to teach about faith and compassion for others. Her love of learning began with her education she received in Backus Public Schools and continued throughout her life and through her family. In her pastime, she enjoyed reading, daily devotions, politics, bowling, horseshoes, watching Wheel of Fortune and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. She mainly loved spending time with family and friends – especially in her kitchen. Even at the end, Edith was surrounded by those who loved her. Edith is survived by her husband Jim of 44 years, children; Jr. (and Dorothy) Lanning of Litchfield, MN; Gloria Stevenson of Starbuck, MN; Melodie (and Mike) Gaffney of Briggsville, WI; Jamie (and Virgil) Wiechmann of Litchfield, MN; Carla (and Dan) Smith of Hutchinson, MN; Jolyn Haugen of Milwaukee, WI; and Brent Haugen (and Dean Baxter) of Phoenix, AZ. Grandchildren; Jerad, Heidi, Ellisa, Grant, Clay, Lindsay, Dan, Matt, Megan, Nicole, and Miah. Great grandchildren; Alyssa, Drew, Madeline, Isabella, Evan, Jordan, Garret, Lily, Riley, Kaylee, Deidric, and Jackson. Siblings; Violet Watkins of Litchfield, MN; Margaret (and Harlan) Skinner of Aitkin, MN, and Wilbur (and Faye) Kemp of Grove City, MN.
