Eben J. Laidlaw, age 56, died on Friday, June 11, 2010 at his rural Grove City home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield with Pastor Jesse Laidlaw officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home. Military honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard.
Eben Junior Laidlaw, the son of Earl and Beulah (Wold) Laidlaw, was born on October 13, 1953 in Richland Center, Wisconsin. He grew up on the family farm near Manannah. He graduated from Grove City High School in 1971. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served four years. After his service he returned to Minnesota and worked as a handyman. In 1979 he married Peggy Smith. Peggy died in 1996 and Eben started trucking over the road until his health forced him to retire in 2007. On August 8, 2009, he married long time fiancée Elizabeth Smith. Eben enjoyed biking, gardening, playing cards and tinkering on cars and motorcycles. He was also up for an adventure and loved spending time with friends and family. He was a dedicated dad and cherished his grandchildren.
Eben is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of rural Grove City, daughters Grace, Jamie and Nicola, grandchildren, Danielle, Eben and Anne, and his mother Beulah of Litchfield. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters; David (and Barb) Laidlaw of Grove City, Beckie (and Mark) Midler of Mankato, Dorene (and Roger) Alexander of North Carolina, Dean (and Cathy) Laidlaw of St. Cloud, Dennis (and Deb) Laidlaw of Montrose, Becky (and Dwayne) Klebs of Sartell, and Rick (and Barb) Laidlaw of Grove City. He was preceded in death by his father Earl and first wife Peggy.
